According to latest news from the FDA, S&M International Inc, Bayonne, NJ is issuing a nationwide recall of Yang Sheng cooked salted duck eggs due to potential contamination of the product with Clostridium botulinum. According to the federal agency Clostridium botulinum is an infectious bacterium that could cause life-threatening illness including death. In this notification the agency has warned consumers not to use the product even if it does not look spoiled or smell bad.

According to the agency the potentially affected products have the UPC code 6949682803568 and the lot number is YS12-02C. The recalled products were distributed between August and October 2012 to stores and markets located in New York City area, PA, VA, MI. This product is vacuum packed in plastic with six eggs per 12.69 oz. package. The company issued the recall after it was discovered during NYSDAM Sampling which revealed the product was not processed in a manner to prevent growth of Clostridium botulinum. The decision to initiate the recall of these affected products was made after a thorough investigation and the manufacturer has assured that it has taken a number of corrective steps to avoid any untoward incidence.

S&M International INC, the manufacturer of the potentially infected products has said that it is working with retailers and distributors to schedule returning of those products for a full refund. The company has also urged customers who already possess these potentially infected products to contact the original place of purchase and seek for a full return.
