Dying on drug overdose is old. But when a prescription drug keeps putting questions over the lives of the consumers, the matter needs to be scrutinized. There are over 12000 lawsuits have been slapped against the popular contraceptives, Yaz and Yasmin throughout America. The manufacturer, Bayer AG has admitted to its shareholders that the cost may go beyond 1.5 Billion USD.

At the launching of the medicines, Bayer said, these would be “fourth generation contraceptives”. Yaz and Yasmin came at the top of the list of the popular contraceptives in less than a decade. But, in between 2004 and 2008, 50 deaths have been reported. The numbers kept rising with time.

Yaz and Yasmin are a combination of the drugs Drospirenone and ethinylestradiol. Drospirenone helps to create a new menstrual cycle as it blocks the hormone aldosterone. But, this triggers the chance of blood clots for the patients three times than normal. This combination of drugs also increases the potassium level which may affect the patient badly. Not only that, the patients may feel some other kinds of problems or even death. The primary symptoms could be like nausea, headache and tremendous fatigue which may turn out as severe heart problem, kidney ailment and gallbladder disease, Pulmonary Embolism, Deep Vein thrombosis or many other problems.

According to the report, there are nearly 1000 cases have been consolidated in the US District court for the Southern District of Illinois against Bayer. These cases are consolidated for coordinated pretrial discovery under the Federal Law of Multidistrict Litigation.

But even after that the allegations against Bayer AG kept coming. There are different Law-farms throughout USA dealing with the lawsuits over the claims of damages by consumption of Yaz and Yasmin.

Now, take a look at the points on which the suffered people can contact an attorney to file a lawsuit.

  • If any of your family members have died after consuming Yaz or Yasmin, you can file a lawsuit against the manufacturer on the field of manufacturing defect and negligence. It is clear that the company neglected the potential threats by the drugs and did not even change its marketing strategy for a long time even after the reports of casualties by it.
  • If you or any of your family members had to undergo any surgery as an effect of the drug.
  • If any patient has suffered physically, mentally and financially as an aftermath of consuming Yaz or Yasmin.
  • Any patient can also slap a lawsuit against Bayer on the field of product liability.

Except these, there are more other fields on which the affected can slap lawsuits against the manufacturing company.

Bayer AG kept selling the defective contraceptives Yaz and Yasmin even after the news of multiple deaths and warnings from FDA. The lawsuit against them may cost them billions but the affected people may not live a normal life ever. Is a business costlier than life? We hope the law would find the correct answer.
