Uses

It is an injectable synthetic protein antibody made by man. It has an affinity for tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) in the body and it binds with it and blocks the effects of TNFα in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn’s disease. Other such injectable drugs are Humira and Enbrel. All these drugs are TNF blockers. TNF is a protein, which is produced by body in case of inflammation. It promotes inflammation and the signs of inflammation. In case of arthritis there may be fever, pain, tenderness, and swelling of joints too. In the case of Crohn’s disease inflammation may show symptoms such as fever, stomach pain and diarrhea.

In case of rheumatoid arthritis if inflammation persists, it can result into destruction of joints. In Crohn’s disease persistent inflammation can cause strictures or narrowing of the intestine or intestinal perforation.

Cimzia is used to bind to TNF in the body and blocking its effects. This subsequently could lead to reduction of inflammation and its consequences in the related body pats. In rheumatoid arthritis it reduces destruction of joints. It could be slowed or fully prevented with use of this drug. In case of Crohn’s disease it reduces intestinal inflammation causing relief to the patient.
