A plaintiff from Alabama has filed a lawsuit against drug maker Boehringer Ingelheim for enduring side effects due to its anti coagulant drug ‘’. The lawsuit was filed by the plaintiff in the United States’ District Court for the Southern District of Illinois. However, the drug lawsuit is currently in the Multidistrict litigation court of the state to streamline the judicial process and consolidate the case with other that are yet to be heard.

According to the reports the plaintiff is from Alabama and named as ‘Dixie Comer’. In the lawsuit filed by the plaintiff and her she started taking the drug around December 2010 after she was advised by her doctor. However immediately after using the drug she was hospitalized on May 18, 2011, following a severe gastrointestinal bleed. In her lawsuit the plaintiff has claimed that Pradaxa was the drug that caused her uncontrollable intestinal bleeding and that she is entitled to receive monetary and punitive compensation. The plaintiff has also expressed her concern over developing further complications as a result of her use of the medication.

In the lawsuit filed by the plaintiff they have framed plenty of charges against the drug maker that includes product liability, negligence, breach of warranties and concealment of appropriate information. The plaintiff has argued that the drug maker concealed the relevant side effects of the drug from patients and that they were aware of the side effects associated with the drug.

What is pradaxa?

The drug Pradaxa manufactured by the pharmaceutical giant Boehringer Ingelheim is an anti coagulant or blood thinner belong to the class of the direct thrombin inhibitors used for various clinical indications. The drug was widely recognized and considered as an effective alternative to Warfarin.
